YOU CAN DO IT! all the church communications you need to do, in-house, using your people, and at low cost

2 November, 2010 By Yvon Prehn 1 Comment

You can do it! All you need to in church communications.
You can do it! All you need to in church communications.

For your church communications, we've come a long way since the start of the digital revolution.  As we've progressed, more and more of the tasks of communication that were difficult have become easier with the development of resources that enable your church to create cost-effective and professional results, in all areas of church communications.

I've launched this website to help you;  I've got lots of resources designed to help you and more will be released on a continuing basis. I trust the information here will give you  inspiration and practical training, but overall, again, and again, outside whatever I can provide, my core message  is YOU CAN DO IT!

YOU, in your church, with your people can create all the communications you need to reach the people the Lord called you to reach and to grow your congregation to Christian maturity.

The Lord calls and gifts his people to do his work-you may not feel like, you may not want to, but no matter how quickly changing the technology, no matter how old or young you are, no matter where your church is located or how small your budget, you can do all the communications you need to win your community to Jesus and to help your people grow in their faith.

Following are expanded reasons why you can and should do your communications work in-house, in your church, by your church people.

Content is primary and should be personal

In your communication ministry periodically it's important to remind ourselves why we communicate anything at all in the church. We are doing it to fully fulfill the Great Commission given to us by Jesus to go into all the world, preach the gospel, and make disciples. It isn't the technology that we use that is of primary importance, but the content of our message.

Though the core message of every church, salvation in Jesus, is the same for every church, every church will express the gospel in its own unique way and no one can express it better to the audience your church is called to reach than the people in your church. [Read more...]

PDF: Business cards, many ministry uses in a small package

15 April, 2010 By Yvon Prehn Leave a Comment

PDF of a variety of church business cards
PDF of a variety of church business cards

This PDF shows business cards used in a number of ways, all of which are effective for outreach.

But example #1 on the page needs a little more explanation. It is a card that a church can give out to people after doing some sort of service project. For example in the winter, perhaps the youth group shoveled sidewalks or scraped windshields or the church gave folks hot chocolate at rest stops. Whatever the kindness, this is a great way to let people know the church did the action and to invite people to come visit the church.

Some folks might say that perhaps the church should simply do the act of kindness without saying who did it and if that is what the Lord tells you to do, by all means do that. However, if you don't let people know who you are and let them know that the church is there and wants to have a continuing relationship with them, you might be cutting off someone who has a real need and who might want to connect with the church. A third option might be to make up the cards and allow individuals to choose if they hand them out or not.

note: this PDF is from Yvon Prehn's archives and is the only format of this article available presently. Not the greatest quality to be sure, but shared with the belief that the content is useful.

Constant change is not necessary for effective church communication

5 March, 2010 By Yvon Prehn Leave a Comment

A current conference advertises itself with this statement:

Constant change is necessary to reach our culture with the unchanging message of Jesus Christ.

Why?

On what basis?

It can't be on the basis of any kind of current marketing theory. Consider some of the most successful brands today:

  • Has Coke ever changed its logo colors?
  • Has Nike ever changed "just......"  you know the rest of the statement.
  • Did the Olympic committee alter its logo from interlocking rings to interlocking squares to keep the image fresh?

Many time-honored brands have not changed their distinctive characteristics for years and they won't. They know that change would be deadly to their brand identity and profitability. There is nothing intrinsically good or beneficial about change. In fact, change can be a destructive and distracting—especially for churches. [Read more...]

We have extraordinary tools available to create church communications and to wow people with our multi-media technology creations. Churches of every size can create can challenge members with video, media-rich websites and colorful print graphics. So what happens when we create these great communication pieces, but few people show up or volunteer for our ministry event?
