Mother’s Day is your church’s BEST opportunity for evangelism!

30 April, 2014 By Yvon Prehn Leave a Comment

When you think about Mother's Day celebrations at your church, evangelism probably isn't the first think you think about--but it should be!

Mothers Day Book
Click here to download this free e-book. Read and share with your church staff and it will change your view of Mothers Day.

If we are to "make the most of our time" and our calling is to introduce people to Jesus and help them grow to mature disciples, we need to realize that Mother's Day brings many unchurched spouses and kids to church who seldom come any other time. If all we do is give out roses for Mom and say a few nice words (nothing wrong with that), we will miss out on the opportunity to give Mom the best gift ever--kids and husbands introduced to Jesus.

This free e-book will give you a new view of Mother's Day--just click and download.

ALL of the materials are free for Effective Church Communication Members, in ready-to-print PDFs and in editable MS Publisher files. For more information on membership and to sign up, CLICK HERE.

7 November, 2012 By Yvon Prehn Leave a Comment

Search for answers about Christianity
The Christian faith is worth exploring and here are some resources that will help you do it.

This page has links to explain the Christian faith, the person of Jesus, and that help seekers explore what it's all about. In our post-Christian world, we want to make sure that when we challenge people to make a decision to trust Jesus as Savior that they know what it means.

There are many other sites that are very useful in clarifying the Christian faith—check out recommendations from friends and your denominations. PLEASE add any you have found useful in the comments section below.

But whatever resources you use, please use links like this on your website, your bulletins, newsletters and on your outreach communications.

Even if they only make a brief connection with your church at a special event, give seekers opportunities to explore the Christian faith, Links like this could change their eternal destiny.

Don’t be a secret-service Christian, how church communicators can help

11 October, 2012 By Yvon Prehn Leave a Comment

When you do outreach in the name of Jesus, communicate about Him.
When you do outreach in the name of Jesus, don't be a secret Christian.

True story here about a lost opportunity to share Jesus:

In our area, one church frequently does a compassionate outreach at a Laundromat in an area of town where many homeless people do their laundry.

My husband, who is a bi-vocational pastor and who does handyman work to support our ministry habits, was on a job recently with a homeless young man. When he overheard him talking about "some guy who paid for my laundry," my husband asked him who did that and what they talked about.

The young man responded, "He didn't say anything—he and his wife just sat in a corner for two hours. I would have talked to him if he wanted—he put in ten bucks for me."

How sad! To pay for washer and dryer use for people who sometimes must choose between clean clothes and a decent meal is a fantastic way to demonstrate caring in the name of Jesus—IF people know you are doing it in the name of Jesus. If not, you may be considered nice, but perhaps a bit strange. [Read more...]

What is difficult about YouTube and what it teaches us about church communication

8 August, 2012 By Yvon Prehn Leave a Comment

YouTube has a lot to teach us about communications
YouTube has a lot to teach us about communications creation.

The popular perception of YouTube is that it is really simple, easy, and anybody can slap up a video. In addition--if it is catchy, funny, or  inspiring enough that the video will go viral and the video creator will gain immediate fame and fortune.

It doesn't work that way.

I've spent a lot of time on YouTube lately trying to understand how it works and how I can make the most of it to equip and inspire church communicators. Part of that has been to study some of the popular producers and to look the advice YouTube gives on realistically how to make a video channel that will have significant impact on the audience you want to reach. My first conclusion is that it is much, much harder and more difficult than I imagined. [Read more...]
