Last minute checklist for Easter Sunday to assure visitor connections

6 April, 2017 By Yvon Prehn Leave a Comment

Easter checklist of church communications
You work so hard to prepare for Easter--here is a list to make sure it is successful in helping you connect with people who need to know Jesus.

In addition to making certain your Easter celebrations themselves are joyful and honoring to the Lord, take some time to make certain that the guests that come for Easter Sunday return next week. Following is a checklist and some links to help make that happen.

__Involve every member in your Easter outreach

In social media reminders, individually, and every opportunity you have, remind your current church members that the Easter celebration isn't just for them and their families. Remind them everyone is responsible to:

  • Invite their friends, offer a ride, be sure they come
  • Be a greeter and  welcome guests as representatives of Jesus
  • Invite friends new or people you meet to brunch afterwards to talk about the service
  • Invite friends and guests back to church
  • PRAY without ceasing that God would touch hearts and people not only enjoy the service, but that they meet Jesus

The second greatest place to post church communications

15 August, 2016 By Yvon Prehn Leave a Comment

Bathroom holder for Church News
This was in the stall of a church bathroom and is a great way to communicate important announcements at church.

The best place to post church communications is the refrigerator. No matter how glued we are to our phones, the refrigerator is still communication central for every home because it's the place where we post the schedules, reminders, all the stuff that actually gets us to activities and ministries at church.

The second best place is the church bathroom.

Seriously.

Think about it, especially for the ladies. You have people's undivided attention, for a least a minute or so.

In the past I recommended this and got some great responses, both in terms of ingenuity and in how successful they can be. The one I remember most was the Stall Street Journal, a great summary of key church events that was published each week and posted in the bathrooms.

The latest example

This last week my husband and I were at the Global Leadership Conference put on by Willow Creek. We were at the site at the New Life Community Church in Pismo Beach. My first stop after the drive from Ventura and a quick registration was of course the bathroom and there I saw the GREAT bathroom communication reminder posted here. [Read more...]

Church Signs, what works and what to be careful about

Church signs, important tools for ministry
Church signs are important tools for ministry, here are tips to make the most of them.

Recently a church communication elder asked me about the effectiveness of electronic church signs.  She sent this link in reference to the sign their church was considering: http://curbappealled.com/. She added that a church member had donated the money for it and asked for my comments on it. I'm always happy to respond to requests from church communicators and though I can't guarantee how quickly I will respond, please send questions or suggestions for content on this site to: yvon@effectivechurchcom.com.

First, I'd like to offer some comments on a sign like this and then on signs overall. If you have any more comments on signs, examples of effective signage, or sources for good ones, please add them to the comments below.

As to my answer whether or not to get a professionally designed electronic sign—the answer to this is easy—go for it! Particularly, if the other businesses in your area have similar signs, you want people to be able to clearly find you as a church. Having said that a sign like this can be very good for your church, following are a few other comments that might be helpful.
