Ready-to-Print Sept. 11 (and other times): Postcard Prayers for Police, Firefighters, Soldiers

31 August, 2011 By Yvon Prehn Leave a Comment

Thank you card for those who serve
Any time of the year it is appropriate to say thank-you and pray for those who serve: the police, fire-fighters, soldiers.  The cards here can help you do that.

Though this collection of Postcard Prayers was created initially for Sept. 11 commemoration in the U.S., this set of materials also has generic cards that can be used in any location, at any time, to honor Police, Firefighters, and Soldiers from any country, anywhere.

The cards could be used for the holiday season along with homemade goodies or healthy snacks. The holidays throughout the year are often either times of loneliness or extra work for those who serve the public. We can serve them with our thanks and prayers.

Credit for the inspiration of the cards

As I was looking for materials that might be useful for church communicators to commemorate Sept. 11, I came across an excellent article: 5 ways to commemorate 9/11 at church by Diana Davis.

One of my favorite suggestions from the article that could be done for both September 11 services or anytime was this one:

-- Shield a badge with prayer. This would be a great Sunday to kick off a prayer plan, perhaps calling it "Shield a badge with prayer." Our church did a version of this for many years, with amazing results. Church members commit to pray for one specific police officer, fireman or other public official for one year, sending occasional notes of prayer.

Postcards for you to use to thank those who serve

I created a set of postcard size publications, in both ready-to-print PDF format, editable MS Publisher Templates, 96 dpi images for web, and 300 dpi images for print, that can be used in a number of ways:

  • Print and send them to the various groups
  • Print them and put them as part of a gift: cookies or yummy treats
  • The images can be used in Print, on PowerPoint, on your websites or emails. The set has both 96 dpi for the web and all digital uses and 300 if you want to use them as a graphic in your newsletter or bulletin.

Sample for everyone, the entire file for ECC Members

To the top left is a sample PDF that everyone can download and use. Just click on the image to download the PDF.

The entire set of materials is in a ZIP file for Effective Church Communication Members (downloadable at the end of the article) has all the cards illustrated below in PDF, ready-to-print format, editable MS Publisher files, plus the 96 dpi and 300 dpi images. You can use this resource at any time of the year to thank those who work so hard for us.It will always be available under the #1 Members Resources tab on the home page of this website.

If you are not a Member of Effective Church Communications, now is a great time to consider joining, not only for all the materials here but because as we go into fall and the incredibly busy time that it is, membership in church communications will save you a tremendous amount of time with the seasonal materials that are ready for you and will keep you encouraged and trained in your work communicating at the church. Membership is only $9.99 a month or $99 a year and ONE membership can be used by all the members of your church communication or leadership team.  CLICK HERE for more information or to sign up.
